Lead Project

BBQ 2.0

Transportable grill platform for school events.

BBQ 2.0 started from a survey-backed problem: students reported boring school events, mediocre lunch options, and hunger while traveling. The proposed solution was a compact mobile grill and entertainment platform that could bring food and energy to school events.

The design process included expert interviews with an engineering teacher and a mechanic, prior-art research across portable grills and food trucks, a decision matrix, CAD modeling in Onshape, and a physical wood prototype built from available shop materials.

Designed around cost, stability, compact size, safety, entertainment value, and driveability.Selected an AGV-assisted platform after comparing roofed cart and AGV-based concepts.Built a wood frame with support beams, wheels, fasteners, and a tabletop grill surface.Tested the prototype with people standing, jumping, riding, and rolling on the platform.

said they would be more willing to attend school events with the food and entertainment system present.

Core constraintStable

designed to hold a grill and riders while remaining compact enough for a school setting.

Prototype testsPass

structural and rolling tests showed the platform could support people without cracking or collapse.

Process

How the work was engineered.

01

Research

Surveyed students, interviewed technical experts, and studied patents and existing products before selecting a design direction.

02

Design

Generated concepts, compared them with a decision matrix, and modeled the selected platform to scale in CAD.

03

Build

Cut and assembled wood planks, plywood, supports, wheels, screws, and bolts into a testable prototype.

04

Test

Validated structural strength and motion stability, then identified turning and AGV attachment improvements for iteration.
